Hellboy Library Edition The Art of Hellboy

This article deals with Dark Horse Hellboy material published in oversized hardcover canvas books ( 12 x 9 inches or 31 x 23 cm) on thick glossy paper, with a bookmark ribbon (see also the end of this article).

In chronological apearance, we have The Art of Hellboy, published in March 2003 (ISBN: 1-56971-910-1, cover price 49.95$, 199 pages):

In accordance to its name, the book contains many art and sketches from its author (B&W or color), as well as a story "The Vârcolac" previously published in the newspaper-format Dark Horse Extra (plus "Pancakes" in B&W layouts form). Here are the second of cover (sharing the same illustration with the third of cover), title and opening pages.

The book opens with a 4 pages introduction by Scott Allie.


Mainly, the book displays almost 200 pages of color art, B&W sketches and layouts, virgin covers etc..

  2. I adore Mignola's art, but I tried and re-tried, and I always found hius nazi/occult/ Lovecraft stories utterly pompous and ridiculous. But what an artist!
