This "collector's edition " box set was published in November 2016 by DC comics (ISBN: 978-1-4012-7013-1, 11.5 x 7.5 inches or 29 x 19 cm, cover price $49.99, 4 x pages), and the books inside the slipcase are a little oversized (11 x 7.3 inches or 28 x 18.5 cm) by comparison with a regular comic size. The slipcase in itself is conceived to let a little lateral void horizontally and vertically, thus it is not as tight as a DC "absolute" edition slipcase.
A picture below is for size comparison between the first book and The Dark Knight Returns Absolute edition, as well as book two of Dark Knight III The Master Race collector's edition.
The box set has been designed by Amie Brockway-Metcalf, and Jeb Woodard is credited as group editor of collected editions. Notice that the overall size and design of this collector's slipcase box set is very similar to the Dark Knight III collector's box set (as well as the Watchmen 2016 collector's box set): covers of the slipcase form a single illustration, and the spines are numbered at the bottom. The publisher refers to this collected line as slipcase editions at DC’s Deluxe Edition trim size.
Second and third of cover of each glued binding book are plain black (yes glued binding, regarding the relative high price of this box set DC could have taken more care about the quality of the finishing).

Each hardcover book in the slipcase is printed on glossy paper. I don't own the original comics but the aim of DC was to reprint each issue of the original Batman The Dark Knight Returns miniseries in its own hardcover volume (although it is only the title of the first book). Thus, it is a "collector's edition" without any extra section.
Here is book one The Dark Knight Returns:
Below the coloring and printing quality of this slipcase collector's edition is compared with the coloring of the 10th Anniversary hardcover edition, and it looks identical.
Book two Dark Knight Triumphant:
Book three Hunt The Dark Knight:
Book four The Dark Knight Falls:

I wish they would reprint the Absolute Dark Knight!
ReplyDeleteI am also thinking of a omnibus type book (returns/strikes again/master race/last crusade
